Learn the Process of Detailing of Reinforcement

Distance Between the parallel bars in a beam shall not be less than 25 mm

Lapping of main reinforcement shall be avoided at mid span

The Size of the Rods in a column shall not be less than 12 dia

There should be a minimum of 4 rods in a rectangular column and 6 in circular columns

Lapping of the Longitudinal bars in a column should be staggered

Longitudinal bar of a column that goes in to the footing shall be bent to a minimum length of 300 mm

Summary of Detailing of Reinforcement:

– Good detailing makes the RCC Strong, durable and free from defects like cracks, honeycombs etc.
– Ensure adequate gap between the rods to enable the concrete to pass through
– Minimum gap between the rods shall be 5mm more than the maximum size of the aggregates
– Avoid congestion of the rods at the beam-column junction
– Lapping of the column rods shall be staggered

Learn more about Fine Aggregates of Concrete Reinforcement

Fine aggregates are of sizes ranging from 4.7 mm to 1.50 microns. The quality of fine aggregates are greatly affects the quality of concrete. UltraTech expert will take you through the process of assisting the quality of the fine aggregates.

Natural Sands, Manufactured Sands and crust gravel are the different varieties of fine aggregates. Sand should be hard, clean and free from authorent coatings, organic matel etc…

Fine aggregates should not contain more than 5% of Silt, clay lumps, iron pyrites, alkalis, salts, coal, mica, sea shells/shale.

The Silt contains should not be more than 3% for river sands and 15% for manufactured sand. These materials adversely affect the hardening strength and also durability of concrete by initialization of collision of reinforcement.

Any organic impurity like leads, grussles, decade vagitation will interfare with setting and binding properties of concrete.

Sea sand should not be used as it causes affrosion, corrosion of reinforcement and retard setting hardening of concrete. Damp sand exhibits more volumes. This is called bulking. With the damp sand is measure by volume upto 15% extra sand is to be added to compensate of bulking.

– Fine Aggregate, generally known as Sand, plays a vital role in concrete and mortar.
– It Should be free from silt and impurities
– Use of Sea sand causes corresion of reinforcement
– In case of damp sand, upto 15% extra sand is to be added to compensate for Bulking
– Manufactured sand can be used but crusher dust should be avoided
